From the President 

Unfortunately, on so many occasions lately, the word “unprecedented” has been used to describe these testing of times. 

Like so many sectors of our community, in closing the doors of the Club, we have had to stand down employees and others will be making employment adjustments to get through this period, until we can resume trading. Thank you to all our employees and we look forward to getting all back in their jobs as soon as possible.

My appreciation to the Board of Directors and Dane our CEO, who has met twice for extra meetings to discuss various matters, to first, keeping the Club open to trade under the first restrictions, and this week to formulate strategies until the Club can re-open.

Elsewhere in this newsletter you will find information concerning various operational matters for members whilst the Club is closed e.g. takeaway services, functions postponed, competitions (Footy Tipping, Autumn Racing) etc. It is our intention to keep Members informed of news with regular communications.

Newcastle Rugby League has delayed the start of their competition to 31 May, so our Central Newcastle RL teams will not be playing until at least that time.

One positive during this time will be, hopefully, that on reopening, the bistro renovation will be complete and the not much used (at this stage) children’s playground will be available again.

To all our Members, thanks for your previous patronage and support, stay safe in these testing times and we look forward to seeing you back at Central as soon as we can once again resume trading.

From the CEO

This week has been one of the hardest weeks for all of us here at Central.

Due to the State and Federal Government decision to close non-essential businesses, Central Leagues had to shut it doors to our members and guests. Moving forward we will keep all our members as informed as possible by sending out weekly emails and updates on our social media accounts.

Currently, the Club’s renovation is still pushing ahead and it is on schedule. We hope to have it completed by the time we can open again. We will have updates and images of the renovation as it progresses on our social media accounts.

Moving forward, the Club is going to look into the feasibility of doing takeaway sales from the bar and bistro, we will keep you all updated if this will go ahead.

We receive continual updates from the Government and Clubs NSW keeping us informed on the COVID-19 situations. To date, we have not received any indication when the possibility or reopening will be, but as soon as we are advised we will inform you.

I would like to thank the Board, Karen, Scott, Gilly and all the staff who have helped each and everyone of us through this difficult situation.
